On November 12 a presentation of the first stage of the conservation project of Mtskheta Jvari main church was held at The George Chubinashvili National Research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation. The project is being executed by the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre with the financial support of cultural heritage foundation of the ambassador of the Unated States of America in the frames of a large grant.
The aim of the project is protection of the facade masonry of Jvari Monastery main church from further damage. On the first stage, which will last for 10 months, a complex multidiscipline research will be held. This will serve as a base for conservation strategy and a detailed plan of intervention. This conservation project will concern the façade sandstone masonry of the church (all four facades and a dome drum) which in whole is about 1200 square meters of the surface.
