The presentation of the Gelati Monastery World Heritage Site Management Plan was held on May 15, 2015, at George Chubinashvili National research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation and on May 19 in Kutaisi, at Akaki Tsereteli State University.
From August to December, 2013, the draft of the Management Plan was prepared by the Centre at the request of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia. From August, 2014 to May, 2015, the Centre carried out the project “the Preparation of the Gelati Monastery Architectural Ensemble Management Plan” funded by the Municipal Development Fund. In order to ensure the fulfillment of the project, the Centre formed a multidisciplinary work team including both employees of the Centre and invited experts. The project aimed to complete the Management Plan in accordance with the requirements of UNESCO and interests of all stakeholders. Implemented work is based on integrated approach, which includes the protection of the Outstanding Universal Value of the monument in connection with protection and preservation of the cultural, ecological, social, and economic aspects of its setting (buffer zone).
