“Culture and Artistic Life in the First Republic of Georgia (1918-1921)” is a publication, dedicated to the short-lived independence of the country, containing two essays: “Culture and Art in the Independent Georgia (1918-1921) by Vakhtang Beridze and “Architecture and Construction Activities in 1917-1920 Georgia” by Dimitri Tumanishvili. The book is richly illustrated with the artworks of 1918-1921, photographs of the personalities active in that time period and various historical documents, the full English translation of the Georgian text is provided and the annotations are attached to the illustrations.

The book is a result of a two-year research project supported by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation. The conducted research implied multidimensional attitude towards the history of church architecture, with the use of methods of the sociology of religion and identity studies. The book is a collection of eleven research papers by six contributors, which deal with various aspects of the project subject.
