Activity: Lecturer of the Tbilisi Academy of  Arts and Tbilisi Theological Academy; Member of the All Georgia Catholicos-Patriarch International Charity Foundation for the Revival and Development of Spirituality, Culture and Science. 

Restoration projects: Paten of David the Builder (Moscow, Historic Museum, 1953); Jakhunderi icon of the Saviour (Kutaisi Museum); Chukuli triptych (Kutaisi Museum); bookcovers of the Hadishi, Labskaldi, Yenashi Gospels (Mestia Museum, 1970); Alaverdi Gospel bookcover (Tbilisi, Institute of Manuscripts, 1972).

Privalova Catherine

(1930, Tbilisi – 1998, Tbilisi) 

Art  Historian, Prof. Dr., graduated from the Tbilisi State University, Faculty of History and afterwards took postgraduate training at the G. Chubinashvili Institute of History of Georgian Art. 

Since 1958 she worked at the same Institute as a researcher. Since 1963 she was a member of Georgian Artists’ Union. In  1967-1973 she lectured at Tbilisi Academy of Fine Arts,  Faculty of Art History. Since 1978 she worked at the Main Board for Protection of Monuments of History and Culture of Georgia as a Senior Researcher and Head of the Department. 

In  1992-1993 she was a Member of Directorate of  Sh. Amiranashvili Museum of Fine Arts and  since 1996 – Director of the “Betania” Centre for Scientific Research of Painting. 

E. Privalova participated in the I (Bergamo, Italy, 1974), III (Bari-Leche, Italy, 1980) and IV (Tbilisi, Georgia, 1983) International Symposia on Georgian Art, as well as in the Conference on Greek and Georgian Art (Patmos, Greece, 1981), Conference dedicated to the 800th anniversary of the Studenica Monastery (Belgrade, Jugoslavia, 1986), also in the seminar – “Byzantium and Georgia” (Athens, Greece, 1990) and in the International Symposium – “Mount Athos Art of the Byzantine Period” (Thessaloniki, Greece, 1997). 

E. Privalova was an honorary  member of ICOMOS Georgian National Committee, IOFA and Greek Christian Archaeology Society, a Chief Consultant for the International Art Centre Program “Save Kintsvisi Frescoes” and an active member of all the programmes dedicated to the restoration and conservation of the medieval Georgian monuments. She was a co-author of the scientific-popular documentaries as well.
