They developed mastery over resentment, became free of anger and gained courage through the defeat of fear. In AA, one of the main goals is to become sober and stay sober. To do this, members must rely on their support system which includes other members, sponsors, and meetings. When people become too self-reliant, they often start to think that they don’t need AA anymore. They may start to skip meetings, distance themselves from their support system, and eventually relapse. It is strange paradox, the more you focus on helping others, the more you discover how much you matter.
So mistreating our bodies is sort of like setting our own house on fire. Except unlike burning our house down, we can’t go find a new body to live in if we destroy the one God gave us. Here we’re talking about movies, music, websites… Are we on a mental diet spiritual malady of junk food or health food? This isn’t about a legalistic set of religious rules we are required to follow. Selfishness and self -centeredness is the root of my trouble. My troubles are of my own making and arise out my living a life run on self-will.

Does watching the news or going on Instagram stress you out? Perhaps you need to take a break in order to work through your complex grief first. You can read our articles on being an empath and a highly sensitive person for more guidance. If you think you might be an empath or highly sensitive person (or both), I’ll share some ways of moving through complex grief soon. But first, let’s examine how complicated grief is connected with an important spiritual experience known as the Dark Night of the Soul. Spiritual malady, a condition that disrupts the balance of inner peace and calms one’s spiritual state, is caused by various factors.

They also experience an ineffable quality from becoming spiritual – one where their feelings go beyond mere words. So physical cravings are not the primary reason we slip.
The Spiritual Malady
The specific manifestation(s) of addiction represent an attempt to fill this emptiness from the outside. Substances, activities like gambling, eating, or sex, material objects, jobs, money, or people, may fill this hole, but only very temporarily. When the mood-altering effects of the attempted “fix” wear off, the feelings of dis-ease return and are often worse, driving the urge to “use” again.
It can be a persistent, ongoing condition that can have a profound impact on all aspects of your life. By staying alert to the warning signs and taking action to address them, you can avoid falling into the trap of a spiritual malady and find greater meaning and purpose in your life. Each time we wake up from a modus operandi state of unconscious reflexive autopilot thinking and reacting and become mindfully aware of our internal and external experience, there is an awakening of spirit. It is a spiritual awakening to realize our attitude and outlook come from within and that we have the capacity to adjust them when we make a conscious choice to do so. Just because we may have had a shitty day thus far doesn’t mean that it has to continue in that direction. This is the type of spiritually maladapted behavior that we typically exhibit in active alcoholism.
